A step-by-step guide to submitting a book proposal to StarNexus Press

StarNexus Science Press is an international peer‑reviewed, gold open access publisher based in Hong Kong. We publish monographs, edited volumes, and textbooks at the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital health, and intelligent systems. All submissions are handled through our OMP system.

Proposal Submission Process

Average processing time from proposal to first decision: 6–8 weeks. We strive for rigorous and constructive peer review.

Prepare Your Proposal

Review the required components below and gather all materials before submission.

Submit via OMP

Create an account or log in to our OMP system, upload your proposal, and complete the submission form.

Peer Review

Proposals are sent to 3–4 independent reviewers for double-blind evaluation. You will receive a decision within 6–8 weeks.

Publication

Once accepted, your book is published online with a DOI, ISBN, and CC BY 4.0 license.

What to Include in Your Proposal

Please submit a single PDF or Word document containing the following elements in the order listed:

  • Book Title & Subtitle: Provide a clear, concise title and a subtitle that explains the book's scope.
  • Author / Editor Information: Full name, affiliation, ORCID iD, brief biography (150–200 words), and contact details for each author/editor.
  • Book Description: A 300–500 word summary explaining the central argument, contribution to the field, and how it differs from existing publications.
  • Target Audience & Market: Who is the primary readership? What disciplines or communities will benefit?
  • Comparative Titles: List 3–5 competing books and explain how your book is distinct from each.
  • Detailed Chapter Outline: A chapter-by-chapter summary (1–2 paragraphs each). For edited collections, list chapters with authors (if known).
  • Estimated Length & Timeline: Proposed word count, number of figures/tables, and estimated completion timeline.

Manuscript Format Requirements

  • Language: English
  • File Format: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) or LaTeX
  • Word Count: 40,000–80,000 words for monographs (flexible by arrangement)
  • Required Sections: Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Chapter Descriptions, References, Author information, Funding statement, Conflict of Interest
  • Citation Style: APA 7th edition or Chicago Manual of Style
  • Anonymization: Remove all author identifiers for double‑blind review
  • Figures & Tables: High resolution (300 dpi), labeled sequentially, placed near first mention

Submissions that do not comply with these formatting guidelines may be returned to authors for revision before entering peer review.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the expected word count for a monograph?

We typically publish monographs of 40,000–80,000 words, including references and appendices. Longer or shorter works may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Can I submit a proposal for a book that is not in English?

We accept proposals in English. Through our Publishing 3.0 service, we can produce bilingual (Chinese-English) editions.

Do I retain copyright of my work?

Yes. All books are published under a CC BY 4.0 license, and authors retain full copyright.

How do I apply for a BPC waiver?

You can apply for a waiver through our BPC Waiver Request page. We consider requests based on country of affiliation, subject area, and financial need.
