StarNexus Monographs — Open Access Policy for Scholarly Monographs

StarNexus Monographs is a gold open access book series published by StarNexus Science Press (Hong Kong). This policy outlines the open access framework, author rights, licensing, and publication fees that govern all monographs published in the series. All policies align with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Core Practices and international open access standards.

Gold Open Access Model

StarNexus Monographs follows the Gold Open Access model, meaning that the final published version of every monograph is freely and permanently accessible to all readers worldwide immediately upon publication. There are no subscription fees, registration barriers, or any other paywalls for readers.

No Embargo Period

Monographs are made available immediately upon publication, with no waiting period or delayed open access.

Global Accessibility

All content is hosted on our OMP platform with Crossref DOIs, ensuring global discoverability and permanent access.

Author Rights & Licensing

Copyright Retention

Authors retain full copyright of their work. No transfer of copyright is required. Authors grant StarNexus Monographs a license to publish the work under the CC BY 4.0 license.

Creative Commons License

All monographs are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This allows users to share, adapt, and build upon the work with proper attribution.

Recommended Attribution

Users should cite the work as: "This monograph is published by StarNexus Monographs under the CC BY 4.0 license. The original work can be found at [DOI link]."

Self-Archiving

Authors may deposit their published monographs in institutional repositories, personal websites, and academic social networks. The final published version should be cited with a DOI.

Book Processing Charges (BPC) & Waivers

To support the costs of peer review, production, and dissemination, StarNexus Monographs levies a Book Processing Charge (BPC) only upon acceptance. The BPC does not influence editorial decisions. Detailed BPC amounts, waiver policies, and discount information are outlined below.

Associate Editors — 60% off
Series Editor-in-Chief — 100% off

Waivers

Top 40% of accepted monographs per volume — Full waiver
Inaugural volume — 20% off for all authors
Low-income country waivers available upon request.

All BPCs are published transparently. No hidden fees. Waiver requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Rights for Readers

Anyone can read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full text of all monographs published in the StarNexus Monographs series, without any financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself.

Readers may:
  • Read and download monographs free of charge
  • Share and redistribute the material in any medium or format
  • Adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the material

Digital Preservation & Long-Term Access

All content published in the StarNexus Monographs series is digitally preserved through multiple archival systems, ensuring long-term access even in the event of system failure. Authors are also encouraged to deposit their final published version in institutional repositories or subject-based repositories.

LOCKSS & CLOCKSS

All monographs are preserved through the LOCKSS and CLOCKSS archival systems, providing long-term preservation and access.

Portico

Content is also archived through Portico, ensuring continued access to scholarly content in perpetuity.

DOIs & Permanent Links

Every monograph is assigned a Crossref DOI, ensuring permanent and citable links that will not break over time.

Transparency

StarNexus Monographs actively supports open science principles, including transparency in research methods, data sharing, and open peer review where applicable.

Data Sharing

We encourage authors to share their data, code, and other research outputs in trusted public repositories, and to include data availability statements in their manuscripts.
